Portrait de Xevi Bayona

Xevi Bayona shares, with humility, that he began his project with two main questions: "How can we bring attention to the tree and nature, and make the height feel more concrete?" The answer didn't come right away. 'At first, I thought about building a spiral staircase around the tree so people could climb up. But in the end, I decided on this ladder that stretches 35 meters into the sky. It's a ladder that people can't physically climb, but it allows us to imagine the ascent through two figures. We move towards heaven symbolically, with our subconscious.' At the heart of nature, along the trail of "La Forêt Monumentale ", visitors catch sight of a figure atop a ladder, seemingly suspended in the air. 'I envisioned this ladder as a vertical landmark, a connection between heaven and earth. It also echoes the menhirs that once shaped the landscape and time, fostering a human connection to the land.' For a moment, visitors are elevated, gaining a newfound perspective of the landscape. This prompts contemplation about our environment. 'And questions often outweigh answers,' emphasizes Xevi Bayona. We follow with our eyes and accompany these two figures, two women in red, 'because it's a complementary color to green'. Finally, this artwork, A Ladder to Heaven, is also a structural challenge. To ensure that this ladder remains upright, resistant to the wind's assaults, without relying on the tree but rather accompanying it in its ascent and verticality towards heaven.
